Tips to stay safe while in a tractor

According to OSHA, tractor rollovers cause about 130 fatal injuries per year in Pennsylvania and throughout the country. However, the organization has released a guide that is intended to keep tractor drivers safe. For instance, an individual has a greater chance of avoiding injury or death by only riding in tractors that have roll bars or cages. Drivers are also encouraged to wear safety belts and avoid slopes that are too steep.

A tractor should be operated at a constant speed, and drivers should refrain from frequent stopping and starting. The tractor itself should be inspected on a regular basis to ensure that it is working properly. A safety inspection should include a battery check as well as an inspection of all electrical components. It should also involve taking a look for sharp edges that may exist and any oil or other fluid leaks.

Individuals who experience a head injury, broken bones or contract an illness at work may be able to obtain benefits. In some cases, employees could file a workers' compensation claim. However, if an accident is caused by an employer's gross negligence, it may be possible to file a personal injury lawsuit. This could allow an individual to ask for punitive and other damages in addition to compensation for medical bills and lost wages.

It may be beneficial for an injured worker to speak with an attorney about their case. Doing so could help them learn more about whether an injury case will be resolved through the workers' compensation system or some other action. In a workers' compensation case, the injured worker is generally entitled to a financial award regardless of who was at fault for causing the accident.
